Suez Canal - Transit

Vessel arrived of Port Said on Friday 1st Februart 2008,
After anchoring to await our turn to proceed in, we eventually
arrived in the harbour at 1.ooam the following day.
Once we had cleared immigration and customs (at much cost to the
onboard cigarette locker!!), we eventually joined our convoy at 3.30am.
Due to it being night time, not many photos could be taken. So the
following photo's are when the vessel was at anchor in the Bitter Lake,
which looked more like a ships version of NCP car parks!! Due to a
container ship running aground and blocking one channel.....

That is the culprit, circled. Better not give out the name of the vessel.

Unfortunetly due to the fact that the ship has run aground, the rest of
the transit will be done in darkness. So that is all to see in the Suez Canal....
Next stop will be Salahal in Oman, to pick up one person, and a few
essential items, but will not be going alongside.....yet!!!
Till then......

On our way to India

Vessel left Dundee on the evening of the 20th January to
much relief for all the crew onboard. After many months
of waiting.
We made our way down to the English Channel before entering
the Bay of Biscay, with good weather ahead. Came through
Gibraltar Strait, and you could feel the weather getting warmer
all the time.
Our first port of call was Valetta in Malta, for a crew change,
replenish fresh store, and a quick run ashore!

Approaching Valetta Port.

Looks like we have gone back a 1000 years to Roman times!

One of the 3 old cities.

Second (foreground) and third of the old cities.

Lots of these old stone steps around the city.
Don't want to come back late at night, after a few beers!

Another view.

Skandi Achiever berthed alongside in Valetta, Malta.

Looking out towards the sea.

After just over 9 hours in port the vessel sailed at 2100 on
the 29th Jan to Suez for the Canal Transit. Can't wait!!!!!!!
Till then........
